As part of its new Strategic Vision and Five-Year Plan, the American Egg Board (AEB) announced it has named Mike Koenigs to the newly created position of chief outreach and operations officer, effective immediately.

Reporting directly to AEB President & CEO Emily Metz, Koenigs will oversee and be responsible for driving new efficiencies in the AEB's finance and human resources functions, while unifying organizational engagement and outreach to egg producers, the food chain, allied industry, government and other key industry stakeholders.

“Implementation of the AEB’s new Strategic Vision & Five-Year Plan calls for ambitious changes to our operations and how we approach outreach. Mike’s breadth of experience across industries, his deep expertise in agriculture, especially working with commodity marketing and promotional organizations, and his superb business and communications acumen make him an ideal choice to lead these exciting transformations,” said Metz.

Koenigs brings to the role credentials across a broad swath of industries and sectors including corporate, government, transportation, consumer, food production, military and public service.

Notably, Koenigs has extensive background in the pork and dairy industries overseeing corporate, crisis and sustainability communications, producer engagement and consumer marketing, as well as business management, financial coordination and staffing alignment.

“The new Strategic Vision lays out an aggressive plan for the American Egg Board and the industry, and I’m excited for the opportunity to work with this tremendous staff and partner with producer leadership to reach even greater heights on behalf of America’s egg farmers,” said Koenigs.

Koenigs will work on three of the six goals listed in AEB’s five-year strategic plan, including:

  1. “Giving voice to our farmers’ values: responsibly producing a safe, sustainable, nutrient-rich protein that is part of the solution to global malnutrition.”
  2. “Increase awareness, maximize return on investment and secure additional resources for the Checkoff.”
  3. “Further strengthen AEB by elevating talent, leveraging technology, maximizing efficiencies and striving for organizational excellence.”

Koenigs is working with the AEB staff to outline his initial priorities and goals for his duties.

Most recently, Koenigs served as vice president at global PR agency Weber Shandwick. Koenigs holds a BA in public relations from Marquette University.
