Fatburger and Buffalo’s Express, two concepts owned by restaurant group FAT Brands Inc., have introduced a new vegetarian wing called Chick’n Vings.

The plant-based product is made with Quorn Vegetarian Meatless Wings. Quorn is a UK-based meat alternative company that has been experimenting with vegetarian and soy-free “meats” since the 1980s.

Chick’n Vings joins Buffalo’s Express’ wide selection of “highest quality, fresh never frozen buffalo-style chicken wings,” according to their website.

“We’ve had great success in offering items that cater to a variety of dietary preferences - especially vegan and vegetarian. In 2018, we were one of the first chains to offer the Impossible Burger nationwide. Shortly after, we debuted Fatburger’s vegan shakes. Meatless and vegan offerings are natural evolutions for our brand to extend Hollywood’s favorite fast-casual comfort food to all of our fans,” said Andy Wiederhorn, CEO of FAT Brands.

“We’re always looking to evolve our menu. As a result of the pandemic, plant-based products have only become more popular. We don't expect that to change. Consumers will only become more mindful of what they consume.”

There is a growing list of foodservice companies that offer plant-based menu options. Burger King launched the Impossible Whopper in 2020, followed by the Impossible Breakfast Sandwich at Starbucks later that year. Earlier this month, McDonald’s announced plans to debut the McPlant Burger in select markets by the end of the year.

Taste is the priority

Chick’n Vings are available plain or smothered in any of Buffalo’s Express’ 13 house-made sauces, including Scorchin’ Carolina Fire BBQ, Coconut Jerk, Honey Garlic and Sweet Bourbon BBQ. They will be sold at all domestic Fatburger and Buffalo’s Express locations.

“Taste is always a huge priority for us. Quorn wings have the ideal flavor and consistency that customers have come to expect from our famous wings. The umami flavor really complements all 13 of our sauce options, which was key for us,” he added.
