Second turkey breast recall for Piller's Fine Foods

For the second time this month, a smoked turkey breast product from Piller’s Fine Foods has been recalled because extraneous materials were found in the product.

For the second time in January, a turkey breast product from Piller’s Fine Foods has been recalled because extraneous materials were found in the product..

According to a notice from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency CFIA), the recall was issued on January 26 after pieces of plastic were found in the smoked turkey breast product.

The specific products were distributed at the retail level in Ontario, and carry the UPC code number 0 69401 07665 6. The affected turkey breasts were in 2 X 200 gram packages, and had labels stating a best before date of February 2, 2021.

Consumers who purchased the products are encouraged to discard them or return them to the store where they were purchased.

Earlier advisory from CFIA

The January 26 recall followed an earlier recall involving a foreign material contamination of a Piller's Fine Foods turkey breast product.

In that situation, the CFIA announced on January 11 that plastic had been found in 375 gram packages of oven roasted turkey breast products. Those products were distributed nationally in Canada, contained the UPC code 0 69401 07546 8 and had a best before date of January 27, 2021.

About Piller's Fine Foods

Piller’s Fine Foods was founded in 1957 when butcher Wilhelm Huber, opened a small shop in Waterloo, Ontario. Two years later, his brothers Edward and Heinrich joined the company known as Piller’s Sausages and Delicatessens Limited.

The company was acquired by Premium Brands Holdings Corporation in 2011 and has since changed its name to Piller’s Fine Foods, according to the company website.
