JBS has invested BRL60 million (US$11.14 million) to expand its plant in Jaguariúna, São Paulo, Brazil, to raise production of Seara Gourmet smoked bologna sausage, designed for the domestic market, by 67%.

The expanded area at the factory will begin production this month, and the company’s investment has created 60 new jobs, all of which have already been filled. The plant currently has 580 employees who work in three shifts.

Ricardo Santini, Seara’s Prepared Foods industrial director, explained that the investment was directed at the structure of the factory which, in addition to bologna sausage, also produces pepperoni. The investment also included the purchase of more modern equipment.

“The plant is strategically located to both receive raw materials and inputs, and to supply those regions where demand for the product is highest. We hope to continue our growth trajectory in the premium segment in the search for a greater market share,” said Santini.

The Seara Gourmet range is the premium range of Seara, a subsidiary of JBS. Its portfolio covers special cold cuts, hamburgers, special dishes, German sausages and superior quality special pepperoni.

Headquartered in Vila Jaguará, São Paulo, Brazil, JBS is the world’s largest protein producer and the world’s second largest food company.
