Dr. Sulivan Alves has been elected as chairperson of the International Poultry Council (IPC) Working Group (WG) on Sustainability and Environment.

Alves is the technical director of the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA). Since 2019, she has led the technical issues and regulatory affairs in the association, representing nationally and internationally the poultry and pork sector.  In the past, she was the technical lead for the Association for seven years. In that position, she represented the IPC at World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) ad hoc working groups in several occasions.

Prior to this position, Alves was the sustainability and corporate affairs manager at BRF, one of the largest poultry meat producers in the world being responsible for the sustainability strategy of the company. Alves is an animal scientist and holds a PhD in agronomy from the University of São Paulo, with research focus on animal welfare. At the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, she was a professor for agricultural sciences, veterinary medicine and animal sciences courses.

Alves takes over the position from Anne-Marie Neeteson, who led the WG to signing the “Declaration of Sao Paulo” together with the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The WG will now continue on the path of poultry industry’s commitment in pursuing the declaration’s goals.

Sulivan Alves joins Erica Charlton, Shraddha Kaul and Anne-Marie Neeteson in leading IPC WGs. The IPC is proud of this team and its confident that their skills and experience will greatly benefit the global poultry industry.
