Two BRF plants gained clearance to ship chicken wings to Canada. One of the plants is located in Novo Mutum and the other is in Lucas do Rio Verde, both in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso.

With these approvals, BRF, the second largest poultry company in Brazil and the third largest poultry company in the world, now has 15 facilities that are authorized to export chicken products to Canada, according to a Reuters report.

The two recent approvals are a signal of progress for BRF, which has been seeking to sell more products to Canada and strengthen its position in major markets. It is also seen as a step forward as the company seeks to shore up competition from its biggest Brazil-based rival, JBS, the world’s largest poultry producer.

BRF in December revealed its 2030 VISION plan, a growth strategy designed to lead the company toward an approximate annual revenue of BRL100 billion (US$19.5 billion) in the next decade. The company, whose proprietary brands include Sadia, Perdigão, Qualy and Banvit, intends to invest more than BRL55 million to achieve the goals set forth in this plan.

BRF aims to achieve local presence in some of the world’s largest added-value consumer centers, and to expand its share in ready meals, increasing its presence in the promising high-added value pork and pet markets, in addition to leading the biggest transformation in this generation’s consumption of new proteins.

While BRF had been struggling financially a few years ago, when it reported its financial results for the 2020 fiscal year, it was reported that BRF had emerged from a consolidated net loss of BRL4.5 billion in 2018 to a net income of BRL1.4 billion in 2020.

According to the WATTPoultry.com Top Poultry Companies Database, BRF slaughtered 1.55 billion broilers in 2019. It is also a major animal feed and pork producer.
