They hope to produce 665,912 tonnes of maize on 102,448 hectares, according to officials in the Department of Agriculture Extension.

In the char lands, more than 25,000 hectares are slated to be used for maize farming, which has been a tenet in achieving economic self-reliance in recent years.

The country has a total goal of 1,170,000 tonnes of maize.
