Bangladesh farmers planting for winter season

Maize seed being sown in country’s northern region

Reports say Bangladesh farmers are planting maize seeds for the winter season in the northern part of the country.

They hope to produce 665,912 tonnes of maize on 102,448 hectares, according to officials in the Department of Agriculture Extension.

In the char lands, more than 25,000 hectares are slated to be used for maize farming, which has been a tenet in achieving economic self-reliance in recent years.

The country has a total goal of 1,170,000 tonnes of maize.
