Russian agrifood company Cherkizovo Group has committed to construct a new poultry plant, pork plant and feed mill, as well as six broiler farms and four pig farms.

All of those operations will be constructed in Russia’s Tula and Lipetsk regions, and are expected to create about 3,600 jobs.

According to a press release from Cherkizovo, the company signed agreements with leaders of the Altai Territory and the Tula and Lipetsk regions, in which Cherkizovo would invest more than RUB80 billion (US$1.11 billion) for the expansion projects. The agreement was signed at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on June 8.

“We are pleased to announce new large-scale investments in our capacities,” stated Cherkizovo Group CEO Sergey Mikhailov. “The agreements signed at the forum will kick off projects set to boost pork and poultry production in the next 2-3 years and strengthen our leadership in the domestic meat industry.”

Expansion in the poultry industry

In one agreement, Cherkizovo Group pledged to build a plant that would include slaughter, primary processing and secondary processing in the Yefremov District of the Tula Region. This project, expected to take place from 2023 to 2025, is estimated to cost up to RUB8.4 billion.

In the Lipetsk Region, Cherkizovo intends to construct six broiler farms, investing RUB7.5 billion.

In another agreement that Mikhailov signed Altai Territory Gov. Viktor Tomeko, Cherkizovo vowed to expand a poultry cluster to increase Altai Broiler’s production capacity between 2021 and 2025. That project represents an investment of RUB 2.6 billion.

Pork expansion projects

Cherkizovo will invest RUB48 billion in for the construction of a facility for the slaughtering, storage and processing of pork, with a capacity of 4.2 million head per year. That complex will be in the Yefremov Territory of the Tula Region.

The company intends to address an additional RUB8 billion for the construction of four pig farms in the Lipetsk Region.

New feed operations

With the new poultry and pork plants will also come new feed operations. According to a press release from Cherkizovo, this will come in two phases. The mill will be able to process 130 metric tons of feed per hour, and the second phase involves a silo with a one-time grain storage capacity of 220,000 metric tons that will be built in the Lipetsk Region. These two phases will collectively represent an investment of RUB5.5 billion.
