China detects H5N8 HPAI virus in Shaanxi
For the first time, the H5N8 of the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) virus has been detected in the Chinese province of Shaanxi following mass mortality in wild birds. In Iraq and Taiwan, new HPAI cases have been confirmed in poultry. Losses of laying hens in South Korea from earlier outbreaks continue to cause shortages and high prices for eggs. Following the mass mortality of water birds at a natural park in Shaanxi, tests in China revealed the detection of the H5N8 HPAI virus variant for the first time in the province.
