Grocers entice Thanksgiving shoppers with cheap turkeys

Stores give larger discounts than last year

According to reports, grocery stores discounted turkeys more this year than for previous Thanksgivings to entice shoppers into their markets.

Wal-Mart announced its price of Grade A frozen turkeys at 40 cents a pound compared to last year's price of 84 cents a pound.

Kroger offered shoppers using their loyalty card 33 cents a pound on Jennie-O frozen turkey with a $20 purchase. Thom Thumb also offered the same price with card and $25 purchase. Wal-Mart matched the 33-cent offer locally with no restrictions. A number of other retailers also offered below-cost discounts on turkeys.
