In the last two weeks, Yum! Brands Inc. has expanded their cage-free egg future purchase commitment on two occasions. Globally, the company has committed to sourcing 100% cage-free eggs and egg products in more than 150 countries and regions by 2030.

On August 26, the company announced that their latest expansion would more than double the number of restaurants sourcing cage-free eggs by 2026 compared to their last cage-free egg announcement. “Yum! Brands pledges to transition to 100% cage-free eggs for the majority of restaurants by 2026, including the U.S., Western Europe and other leading markets, across all brands and for all menu items and ingredients,” stated Yum! Brands.

On September 2, another expansion of the pledge was released. “Yum! Brands pledges to transition to 100% cage-free eggs across at least 25,000 restaurants by 2026. In the U.S., we aim to ensure at least 25% of our eggs come from cage-free hens by the start of 2023, 50% by the start of 2024, 75% by the start of 2025 and 100% by 2026.”

While many of the company’s markets have already moved to 100% cage-free egg usage including Western Europe, Pizza Hut UK and the Taco Bell U.S. and Canada markets (as of 2016), they recognize that the cage-free supply is limited in some regions, affecting sourcing.

Yum! Brands has committed to sharing progress updates to fulfill their Recipe for Good Report. Additionally, the company’s animal welfare policies are outlined in its Global Animal Welfare Policy and supported by its Sustainable Animal Protein Principles.

Founded in Louisville, KY in 1997, Yum! Brands is the world’s largest service restaurant company with close to 50,000 locations across the globe including its KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and The Habit Burger Grill brands.
