Koch Foods has plans to expand its plant in Fairfield, Ohio, a project that will add 402,140 square feet to the complex.

When the construction project is completed, the company will eventually add about 400 employees.

Koch Foods is seeking incentives from the City of Fairfield, as well as from Butler County, according to a report from the Journal-News.

A resolution has been placed on the agenda for the Fairfield City Council during its September 27 meeting, related to the request for tax incentives. Under the plan, the city will offer Koch Foods a 75% tax exemption for real property improvements over a 10-year-period.

Fairfield Economic Development Manager Nathaniel Kaelin said that according to the plans, the toal building investment for the expansion is estimated at $140 million, while the company will invest an estimated $80 million in new equipment.

With the tax incentives approved, Koch Foods agreed to retain its existing 1,190 employees at the facility, and will add 400 jobs within three years of the completion of the expansion.

Koch Foods intends to begin construction in October, and it anticipates that the project will be completed by December 2022.

Fairfield is located about 25 miles north of Cincinnati.

Founded in 1985 as a one-room chicken deboning and cutting operation with 13 employees, Koch Foods, based in Park Ridge, Illinios, has since grown to be one of the largest vertically integrated poultry processing companies in the United States.

According to the WATTPoultry.com Top Companies Database, Koch Foods processed 60.74 million pounds of ready-to-cook chicken on a weekly basis during the past year. The company has eight slaughter plants, four further processing plants, seven hatcheries and five feed mills. In addition to having operations in Ohio and its home state of Illinois, Koch Foods operates in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee.
