The Cooper Farms Egg Division has opened new egg facility that will be called Golden Heritage Cage-Free Egg Farm and located in Western Ohio. The facility is operated as a partnership between two family farms that are splitting management responsibilities.

The facility sits on 100 acres and will contain 1.96 million layers but has the ability to hold 4 million layers. With an inline egg grading and packing operation, Golden Heritage also contains a four-level Fienhage Aviary Layer System. Production has already begun and will provide 50 jobs once the facility is fully operational at the end of 2022.

“We are in an ever-growing cage-free egg market,” said Gary Cooper, Cooper Farms COO. “We have been trying to get involved in this market for a while now and were told we were too small to even consider. With the production capabilities at Golden Heritage, we now have the capacity to supply the growing cage-free market and continue to grow with it.”

“This is certainly a growth-driven project,” stated Jeff Cutler, Cooper Farms Egg Division Manager. “The needs for the egg market have evolved exponentially the last several years and continue to evolve.”

Other Expansions

Cooper Farms has recently made multiple expansions to grow its egg division.

In May 2021, the company completed the acquisition of liquid egg processor CW Egg. Previously, CW Egg was a Perham Egg facility and was operated as a partnership between the Cooper and Weaver families after purchasing in 2014.

In February 2020, the Ohio Department of Agriculture gave approval for Cooper Farms to build an egg production facility in Darke County. The facility contains six barns and houses approximately 4 million hens.

In March 2019, Cooper Farms announced its acquisition of Hemmelgarn & Sons, which is located in two separate Ohio locations. The purchase included an offline egg grading and packaging plant, a feed mill, 1.6 million hens, 12 contract farmers, multiple trucks and almost 300 acres of land.
