London Olympics to feature homegrown food

Poultry product consumption predicted to surpass 30 tonnes at 2012 games

The London Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games announced Monday that it will source as much food as possible domestically for the 2012 games.

Visitors at the 2012 Olympic Village are expected to eat 31 tonnes of poultry items, according to the National Farmers Union of the United Kingdom. Under the committee’s sustainability goals, eggs served should be from free-range hens.
