Bachoco finalizes acquisition of RYC Alimentos

Industrias Bachoco has closed on its acquisition of RYC Alimentos.

RYC is a multiprotein meat processor and distributor with production facilities in Puebla, Mexico. The agreement includes the acquisition of two plants located in Puebla and 21 stores located in four states of the Mexican Republic (Puebla, Oaxaca, Veracruz and Tlaxcala).  

The stockholder’s equity of this company is valued at approximately US$61 million. RYC produces and sells further processed and value-added products, with net sales around US$150 million per year.

Founded in 1983, RYC is a meat processor and distributor mainly of beef, pork, and chicken with national coverage that participates in all the distribution channels with fresh and value-added products. This, along with the effort of more than 900 employees, has allowed RYC to be among the leading companies in its field.

In December 2020, Bachoco announced that it reached a deal to invest in RYC, but did not offer details on the level of investment. However, in a press release issued on January 24, Bachoco disclosed that it had purchased 100% of RYC’s shares.

Bachoco, the largest broiler producer and second largest egg producer in Mexico, according to the Poultry International Top Companies survey. Globally, Bachoco ranks ninth as a broiler producer and is tied with China’s Sichuan Sundaily Farm Ecological Food Co as the world’s 13th largest egg producer.

Bachoco also recently diversified into the pig industry, with the acquisition of Sonora Agropecuarira in 2020. a Mexican swine processing and distributor company with operations in the states of Sonora and Jalisco. At the time of the announcement, Sonora Agropecuaria had a production capacity of about 15,000 hogs per week, and participated in both the national and export markets.

Industrias Bachoco was founded in 1952, and became a public company in 1997, via a public offering of shares on the Mexican and The New York Stock Exchange. It is headquartered in Celaya, Guanajuato, located in Central Mexico.
