A turkey further processing facility in Sioux City, Iowa, will be closing in May, according to a notice given to the Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) agency.
Tur-Pak Foods notified IWD on March 11 that it intends to close its plant at 6201 McArthur Street in Sioux City, listing May 9 as the planned date of closure. The move will impact 121 employees, according to IWD.
The Sioux City Journal reported that it had obtained a copy of a letter received by Tur-Pak employees, who were told they would be separated from employment on May 27, but the letter did not offer a reason why the plant will be closing.
The building that houses the plant, according to the Journal, was initially leased by Tur-Pak parent company United Holding Co. since 1989, but the company had entered a development agreement with the city in 2006 to purchase the building.
According to the company’s website, Tur-Pak Foods’ services include:
- High-volume repacking

- Slicing opportunities
- Ability to blend/stuff casings and chubs
