Ukrainian poultry and grain company MHP SE suspended operations at its Ukrainian Bacon plant due to the Russian invasion but is cautiously moving ahead with plans for spring sowing.

The facility processes 34,000 metric tons of meat annually and is in the Kramatorsk district of the Donetsk region on the eastern side of the country, bordering Russia. Since Russian forces are concentrated in the eastern part of Ukraine, MHP temporarily suspended operations at the facility for the safety of the over 1,900 plant employees.

The company advised all employees to move to safer regions of Ukraine. MHP will relocate some staff to other MHP facilities and will provide all employees with financial compensation in April, according to a statement made April 11.

2022 spring sowing campaign

Spring sowing has started, and MHP expects to be able to sow all MHP land despite occupying Russian forces. The company reassures that it has all necessary resources to carry out the sowing campaign, including seeds, fertilizers, plant protection materials and diesel fuel for tractors.

As of the Russian occupation leaving the Kyiv and Sumy regions, MHP believes it will be able to sow the 15,000 hectares of land in those areas. However, Ukraine special forces are de-mining those regions and agriculture fields are third on the list of priorities after residential and infrastructure areas, according to a company statement via the London Stock Exchange

Kyiv is in the northern part of Ukraine that borders Belarus, and Belarus is allied with Russia in invading Ukraine.

Humanitarian efforts

MHP is also providing the Ukrainian population with food, 11,000 metric tons of poultry products, according to the company statement.
