Two husband-and-wife teams have tied for top honors in this year’s Scottish Egg Quality Awards. The winners were Jim and Anne Smillie of Corrie Mains Farm in Ayrshire and John and Elaine Dalrymple of Auchtralure Farm in Dumfries.

Judging involved quality assessments of eight key factors: shell color, egg weight, yolk color, albumen quality, shell thickness, freedom from meat and blood spots, external appearance and packaging. Entries came from both conventional cage and free-range systems of egg production.

The competition, now in its second decade, is sponsored by the Scottish Agricultural College and feed manufacturer BOCM Pauls. Twenty-seven producers entered this year’s competition.
