Indian broiler company poised for growth

Saguna becomes a global contender

Suguna Poultry’s annual production rate of 395 million chickens makes it India’s largest broiler producer and one of the 10 biggest poultry companies in the world, according to Tehelka, an Indian newsweekly. The company is experiencing 40% annual growth, according to the magazine, and currently exports to southeast Asia, the Gulf states and parts of Africa.

More than two decades old, Suguna supplies chicks, feed, medicine and broiler management training to more than 15,000 farmers in 11 Indian states. The company plans to expand across India and into additional export markets. Paresh Kumar Shetty, Suguna’s general manager, views ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat products as areas with some of the largest growth potential.
