U.K. poultry company Avara Foods would like to expand its existing hatchery in Shobdon, England.

According to a report in the Hereford Times, consultants recently met with the Herefordshire Council for Planning Permission, stating that the company would like to expand the hatchery by 20.25 meters by 5.3 meters.

The council was informed that no increases in production are expected, but a larger facility will better accommodate new equipment and will increase efficiency.

Comments on Avara’s proposed expansion project can be made until June 23, with planners setting July 21 as a target date for a decision.

Avara Foods formed in in 2018 by a joint venture between Faccenda and Cargill’s fresh poultry business in the United Kingdom. Avara produces chicken, turkey and duck through an integrated supply chain that's entirely based in the United Kingdom.

According to the WATTPoultry.com Top Companies Database, Avara Foods slaughtered 234 million broilers during the past year. It is the third largest poultry producer in the United Kingdom and the 11th largest in Europe.
