Authorities in Washington, Indiana, responded to the Perdue Farms facility in that community on July 14, concerned that a person who had earlier fired a gun might show up there.

But as of that evening, nobody believed to be involved in the incident went to the facility.

According to a post on the Washington Police Department (WPD) Facebook page, officers responded to the area of Northwest 14th Street and Jackson Street, after receiving a report that a male subject had shot at someone.

Officers from the WPD and Daviess County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene around 5:50 p.m., but they did not find anybody with injuries. Officers also determined that the suspects had fled the scene prior to their arrival.

While conducting an investigation, officers had reason to believe that threats were made that gave them reason to believe they should also send officers to the Perdue facility.

“Due to those threats, officers from WPD, DCSO, Indiana State Police, and Indiana Conservation Officers responded to that location. At this time, the suspect has not attempted to go there, and law enforcement presence will remain on scene,” the Facebook post read.

A man who spoke Tristatehomepage.com under the condition of anonymity said his family was targeted, apparently after a dispute took place at the Perdue complex.

An investigation into the incident continues, and the WPD stated that it would provide updates on the situation as they are available.

Perdue Farms, according to data from the WATTPoultry.com Top Companies survey, is the fifth largest broiler producer and the eighth largest turkey producer in the United States. The family-owned vertically integrated poultry company is headquartered in Salisbury, Maryland.
