Astral Foods forms ESG committee

South African poultry company Astral Foods has formed an Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) committee.

The Astral Foods Board of Directors has formed an Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) committee.

The South African poultry company announced the formation of the committee, which became part of the company’s governance structure, effective August 10

According to a statement from Astral Foods, the purpose of the committee is to support the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, with a specific emphasis on environmental stewardship, corporate governance and accountable social engagement.

Committee members have been identified as Mrs. A.D. Cupido, Dr. T. Eloff and Mrs. T.M. Shabangu. Cupido is serving as the committee chair. Nedbank Corporate and Investment Banking is the sponsor of the committee.

Astral Foods, according to the Poultry International Top Companies Survey, is the largest broiler producer in Africa. Headquartered in Doringkloof, South Africa, Astral Foods slaughtered 260 million broilers during the past year.

The company operates several subsidiaries, including National Chicks, County Fair, Ross Poultry, Tiger Chicks, Tiger Animal Feeds and Provimi.
