The company already sources only cage-free eggs in its brands operating in the U.K. and the U.S., which include Marugame Udon and SHORYU Ramen.

Japan locations

In TORIDOLL’s Japan locations, the company is aiming for 10 of its Marugame Udon restaurants to completely switch to cage-free eggs by the end of fiscal year 2022. By the end of fiscal year 2023, it hopes to have 3% of all its restaurants in Japan converted to cage-free eggs, followed by annual increases.

Additionally, it will be following the “Guidelines on the Breeding Management of Egg-laying Hens according to Animal Welfare Principles” in all its Japan restaurants, which is published by the Japan Livestock Technology Association

TORIDOLL Holdings Corporation owns over 1,700 restaurants in 27 countries with brands including Wok to Walk, Konas Coffee, Boat Noodle, Monster Curry, Tamjai Samgor Mixian, Tamjai Hunnan Mixian and others.

Most companies are meeting their cage free goals

The most recent Cage-free Egg Fulfillment Report shows that 88% of global cage-free commitments with a 2021 deadline or earlier have been met. However, 2025 is the established deadline for many remaining cage-free commitments, meaning there will likely be an increase in the number of commitments fulfilled over the next few years.

The report’s data is current as of April 2022 and shows that the rate at which companies are meeting their cage-free pledges is increasing annually. In 2021’s report, 85% of cage-free commitments with 2020 deadlines were fulfilled, indicating that the cage-free egg fulfillment rate by 3% over the year.
