BRF has been granted clearance to export more turkey products from Brazil to Mexico.

The company on September 16 announced that it now has two Brazilian turkey plants that have been given such clearance.

In an announcement to the market on the BRF investor relations webpage, BRF announced that its its production facility located in Chapecó, in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, was authorized by the National Service of Health, Safety and Agrifood Quality (Senasica), to export turkey meat to Mexico. This is the second BRF facility qualified to export turkey protein to Mexico.

In 2021, the Mexican agency granted authorization for BRF’s unit located in Francisco Beltrão, in the state of Paraná, to ship turkey to Mexico.

“The new authorization brings flexibility to track the market oscillations and agility to capture the best opportunities,” the company stated.

The opportunity for BRF to ship turkey meat to Mexico comes at a time when supplies of U.S. turkey are reduced because of the number of turkey flocks impacted by the outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in the United States. Mexico has traditionally been the largest importer of turkey meat from the U.S.

BRF’s announcement to the market was signed by Fábio Luis Mendes Mariano, chief financial and investor relations officer.

According to the WATT Global Media’s Top Poultry Companies survey, other South American turkey producers are Brazil-based JBS, Peru-based companies San Fernando and Redondos, Chile’s Super Pollo and Ariztia, and Ecuador’s Pronaca.

Mexico’s largest poultry producer, Industrias Bachoco, produces broilers, eggs and turkeys.
