The International Egg Commission (IEC) reinstated its awards ceremony at its Global Leadership Conference in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The ceremony is held to highlight the global egg industry’s success and recognize the industry leaders that contributed to those successes.

The Denis Wellstead Award

Two individuals, Ben Dellaert, IEC Chairman, and Jim Sumner, USA Poultry & Egg Export Council (USAPEEC) President and Chief Executive Officer, were awarded the Denis Wellstead Award, which normally recognizes the international egg person of the year but, this year, was awarded to two individuals.

“Ben has been a powerful force within the Dutch poultry and egg industries, championing sustainability, food safety and animal welfare, resulting in the Dutch egg industry being recognized as one of the most modern in the world,” said Suresh Chitturi, outgoing IEC Chairman.

Greg Hinton, incoming IEC Chairman, commented: “Jim has had an incredible career in the poultry industry, dedicating himself to developing the USAPEEC organization. Under his leadership over 30 years, the organization has grown to 16 offices in four continents – a huge testament to his knowledge and direction.”

The Clive Frampton Egg Products Company of the Year Award

Liquid egg products company Global Food Group B.V. was honored for its commitment to sustainability.

Henrik Pedersen, IEC Egg Processor International (EPI) Chairman, added: “They have embraced sustainability, utilizing the eggshells from their egg processing to produce high-quality animal feed. Innovation and change are paramount to their business, and they have exciting plans for growth expansion.”

Golden Egg Award for Marketing Eggsellence

Business entity Mahmood Group won the Golden Egg Award for developing a new brand proposition and helping find a gap in the market for the brand Egg Box.

Chitturi noted: “Egg Box has witnessed 300% growth in volume within a few months of launching the brand, and I am sure that their investment in the development of the brand and its patented packaging will bring a significant return on investment in the future.”
