A Russian official confirmed that Russia will begin an import ban on chlorine-treated poultry on Jan. 1, 2010, contradicting earlier reports that the ban will not be immediately enforced.
Gennady Onishchenko, the country’s chief sanitary doctor, told reporters on Dec. 30 that “We... have finally confirmed the norm according to which imports of chlorine-treated poultry will not be allowed into our country starting January 1, 2010.”
