As the chicken sandwich wars are heating back up, Burger King announced its 3 new chicken sandwiches: the Mexican Original Chicken Sandwich, Italian Original Chicken Sandwich and American Original Chicken Sandwich.

The sandwiches will be available starting January 5, according to Mashed

1. Mexican Original Chicken Sandwich

All three sandwiches will be a breaded chicken patty on a long sesame seed bun. The Mexican Original Chicken Sandwich will bring some heat with queso sauce and crunchy fried jalapeños.

2. Italian Original Chicken Sandwich

The Italian Original Chicken Sandwich patty is covered in marinara sauce and mozzarella.

3. American Original Chicken Sandwich

And the American Original Chicken Sandwich will come with classic ingredients like lettuce and mayo.

The three additions will join Burger King’s current chicken menu options like the Fiery Original Chicken Sandwich, the Italian Royal Crispy Chicken, the Original Chicken Sandwich, chicken nuggets and chicken fries.

The cost of chicken going down

The chicken sandwich wars are probably not the only reason for chain restaurants creating more chicken menu items. According to a survey of 500 industry experts by the National Restaurant Association, chicken will be one of the biggest restaurant trends of 2023 due to a decrease in chicken cost.

Chicken breast prices are down 70% from June, along with other parts like thighs and wings, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Burger King is not the only chain taking advantage of the low prices with Popeyes and Wendy’s also launching new chicken sandwiches recently.

Fun fact!

On April 1, 1998, Burger King launched its limited time left-handed whopper with the ingredients rotated 180 degrees. The April Fools’ prank brought many left-handed customers to their local Burger King to try the new burger.
