Westfeeds to buy Cargill feed mill

Montana plant set to change hands in February

Westfeeds has reached an agreement with Cargill to purchase Cargill’s feed mill and attached property in Billings, Mont. The sale is scheduled to close in mid-February. The plant, built in 1968, has six full-time employees and a production capacity of 50,000 tons.

Westfeeds was established in 2003 after a group of local investors purchased the Montana-based feed assets of ConAgra.

Cargill has arranged a bulk-feed toll manufacturing agreement with Westfeeds, according to Karl Thoene, general manager for Cargill Animal Nutrition’s Pacific Northwest region. Cargill plans to move production of bagged feeds, pet food and its ROC mineral product to other Cargill facilities in the region.
