Ferreira replaces Ferreira as Astral Foods CFO

Daan Ferreira retired as chief financial officer and an executive director of South African poultry and feed company Astral Foods.

Daan Ferreira retired as chief financial officer and an executive director of South African poultry and feed company Astral Foods.

His retirement was effective February 2, following the conclusion of the company’s annual general meeting (AGM), the company announced along with the release of its AGM results.

Ferreira has been with Astral Foods since February 2001, when he joined the company as a group financial manager. He was promoted to CFO in May 2009.

In 2020, when CEO Chris Schutte was injured in a motorcycle accident, Ferreira served as the acting CEO.

Prior to joining Astral Foods, Ferreira was employed by Genfood, and prior to that he was employed by ICS Group.

“The board would like to thank Daan for his exceptional contribution to the company over the past 21 years. Daan served the company with distinction and wisdom and was fundamental in Astral Foods building its solid foundation. Daan leaves his role as a respected CFO in the industry. The Board wishes him only the best in his future endeavors,” the company stated.

New CFO named

At the same time Astral Foods announced the retirement of its CFO, it announced his successor.  Dries Ferreira has been named to the post, with his appointment also effective February 2.

According to his LinkedIn profile, he has past experience as a CFO for Getronics and Newpark REIT.

While the outgoing and incoming CFOs have the same last name, it was not disclosed whether the two are related.

Astral Foods is the largest poultry producer in Africa and the 35th largest in the world. According to the WATTPoultry International Top Companies survey, it slaughtered 280 million broilers in 2021.

As a feed producer, Astral ranks as the 109th largest globally.
