Headquartered in Israel, cultivated meat company, Steakholder Foods, is shifting gears to prioritize the approval of its cultivated, also known as lab-grown, avian product in Singapore.

“Today’s announcement is an important step in our efforts to successfully launch a product in the Singaporean market,” said Arik Kaufman, CEO of Steakholder Foods. “By refocusing our resources on this initiative and streamlining our operations, we believe we can drive greater efficiency and productivity, while also improving our chances of success and market penetration.”

In addition to getting regulatory approval, Steakholder Foods’ subsidiary, Peace of Meat (PoM), plans to employ third parties to scale up the production process and restructure its team members, which will involve layoffs, according to the company.

PoM is looking to Singapore first for regulatory approval since it is the only country, so far, to approve of the public sale of cultivated meat and hopes to finalize the process by the end of 2023. With Singapore’s approval, the company intends to receive approval from the U.S. as well.

Singapore’s approval of lab-grown meat

Singapore became the only country to allow the public sale of cultivated meat after it gave regulatory approval to GOOD Meat, a subsidiary of Eat Just Inc., whose lab-grown product entered the market January of this year.
