A man who was wanted by authorities for the alleged theft of $40,000 worth of boneless chicken breast meat from the Pilgrim’s Pride facility in Sumter, South Carolina, has surrendered to authorities.

According to a press release from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), Jeremy McFadden, 37, turned himself in on May 26, after the SCSO had publicized on Facebook that he was a suspect in the crime. He was booked into the SCSO Detention Center and was charged with grand larceny.

McFadden, a resident of Sumter, is no longer in custody after posting a $20,000 bond.

The agency’s Facebook post was widely seen, as it gathered close to 700 comments, the majority of which were jovial in nature.

No information has yet been available concerning a court appearance for McFadden.

The theft from products from the Sumter plant follows another crime investigation concerning an incident at the Pilgrim’s facility.

In April 2021, an employee at the plant was shot after a fight broke out involving three people. Jeffrey Laverne Green Jr., 18, was arrested and charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. The victim, at the time, was expected to recover.
