Ukraine poultry count up 7.3%

Egg production rises 6% in 2009

Ukraine's poultry industry had a successful year in 2009, with the number of poultry increasing 7.3% to 190.5 million from January 1, 2009, to January 1, 2010. The highest number of poultry at the beginning of 2010, 25.4 million, was recorded in the Cherkasy oblast, according to preliminary figures. Of the 24 oblasts and one autonomous republic in the country, 19 had more poultry on January 1 this year than at the start of 2009.

Ukraine's egg production in 2009 was 6.0% higher year-on-year at 15.86 billion, according to preliminary data from Ukraine's State Statistics Committee. The highest production was in the Kyiv oblast with 2.05 billion, a year-on-year increase of 11.6%. Fifteen oblasts and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea recorded increases in egg production last year, but there was a large decrease of 15.1% in egg production in the Kherson oblast.
