Ontario poultry farmers offered funds to improve biosecurity

New program helps farmers meet Canadian disease control standards for poultry

The Canadian province of Ontario will offer funding to poultry producers who take steps to enhance biosecurity at their facilities, according to Canadian Cattlemen. The funding is designed to help farmers meet the guidelines in Canada’s new National Avian On-Farm Biosecurity Standard.

Applicants for funding must attend a government biosecurity workshop, assess their farms’ current biosecurity level and propose new measures they would like to undertake that would help them better meet the standard. Cost-share funds are available annually on a first-come, first-served basis until the annual budget for the program is met, according to the magazine.
