Supervalu introduces nutrition program

Shelf tags indicate “healthy” products

Supervalu is rolling out the “Nutrition iQ” information program in all of its U.S. stores in the first half of 2010.

The program, a joint venture with the Harvard Medical School-affiliated Joslin Diabetes Center, uses shelf tags to draw consumers’ attention to “healthy” products. Initially, the program will involve the center-store grocery, dairy and frozen sections. Later, the program will be extended to bakery, produce, seafood and deli items.

Supervalu’s family of grocery stores includes Acme, Albertsons, Bigg’s, Cub Foods, Farm Fresh, Hornbacher’s, Jewel-Osco, Lucky, Shaw’s/Star Market, Shop ‘n Save, and Shoppers Food & Pharmacy, over the next six months.
