Inghams to rebuild Australian chicken plant destroyed in fire

Plant had supplied 30% of chicken to the state of Victoria

Australian chicken processor Inghams Enterprises has announced that it will construct a new processing plant on the site where a previous plant was destroyed by fire in January. It plans to conclude construction within one year, according to the Australian Associated Press.

The plant in Somerville, Victoria, will include a state-subsidized water treatment plant that could conserve 95 million gallons of water annually. Inghams announced it will retain 350 of the plant’s 600 employees throughout the construction phase.

Before its destruction, the plant produced about a third of the chicken processed in Victoria.
