FDA meeting to discuss Codex Alimentarius biotech sampling standards

Public meeting on February 16

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Office of Food Safety and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Food and Drug Administration will hold a public meeting February 16 on agenda items and draft U.S. positions that will be discussed at the 31st Session of the Codex Alimentarius Committee on Methods of Analysis and Sampling.

The codex committee will meet in Budapest, Hungary, March 8-12, 2010. It will discuss proposed draft guidelines on methods for identification and quantification of specific DNA sequences and proteins in biotech foods. It will also discuss methods of analysis for natural mineral waters.

The USDA’s public meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 16, 2010, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., in Room 1A-002, FDA, Harvey Wiley Federal Building, 5100 Paint Branch Parkway, College Park, Md. Documents relating to the upcoming codex committee session will be available on the Codex Alimentarius Web site.

To gain admittance to the public meeting, individuals must pre-register and present photo identification at the door. To pre-register, attendees must submit their name, organization, mailing address, phone number, and e-mail address to [email protected] no later than February 15, 2010.
