Hardiman explains genotyping advances

1004 Pi Cobbmeeting

Poultry producers from Europe, Asia and Central and South America learned about the latest Cobb-Vantress research during a visit to Cobb’s world headquarters at Siloam Springs, Ark., following the 2010 International Poultry Exposition in Atlanta.

Dr. John Hardiman, the company’s chief scientific officer, told the visitors about the increasing scope of the company’s breeding program. He told the group about how lowering the cost of genotyping individual birds could increase the pace of future progress. He said the program expects another 15 points on feed conversion in the next five years.

Producers that were part of the visit included customers of PD Hook of the United Kingdom, the Cherkisovo group in Russia, Senpilic and Keskinoglu in Turkey, Charoen Pokphand in Thailand, Cobb Caribe in the Dominican Republic, Pipasa in Costa Rica, Puropollo in Colombia and Avex in Peru.
