German swine breeding and insemination companies begin third joint venture

Stud in Saxony-Anhalt will house 400 boars

German artificial insemination specialist GFS and genetics company PIC Deutschland have begun construction on a 400-boar stud facility in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. This is the third such joint venture between the groups, which have another stud facility in Saxony-Anhalt and one in North Rhine-Westphalia.

In the early summer, the stud will be stocked with PIC grandparent and parent boars. GFS will have 20% of its semen capacity provided by PIC.

The companies are planning additional facilities in eastern Germany.
