Dr. Ariovaldo Zani, CEO of the Brazilian Feed Industry Association, has issued a report indicating projected 2010 feed production for his nation. A total of 62.3 million metric tons will be sold during the current year an approximately 3.5% increase over 2009. The breakdown by animal category is shown in the table below.

Problems facing the Brazilian feed industry include the global credit crisis, domestic unemployment, and over-valuation of the currency contributing to a reduction in exports. The broiler segment is especially impacted, according to the Brazilian Association of Poultry Producers and Exporters. Major trends in the Brazilian feed industry include sustainability, traceability, energy conservation and the use of enzymes and synthetic amino acids to reduce cost.
