Zhongpin Inc. will start construction on a new processing plant and distribution center to produce pork and pork products in Jiangyan, Jiangsu province, China.
Construction is set to begin in August and will take place in two phases. The first phase includes the production lines for chilled and frozen pork, and the related cold-chain logistics system, expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2011. The second phase includes the production lines for prepared pork products and is expected to be completed in the first quarter 2012. The plant's annual production capacity will be about 130,000 metric tons.
