Extra work to meet demand from state chicken promotion

Pilgrim’s Pride Corp. has hired additional workers to meet demand expected from a promotion of locally raised poultry in Florida. The company hired 250 workers for its facility in Live Oak, Fla., according to a report in the Jacksonville Business Journal, to boost production of chicken that will be packaged with a “Fresh from Florida” logo.

The company has agreed to keep 1,175 jobs at the plant for five years starting in 2012, create 35 new jobs and spend $1.5 million on the facility by the end of next year. The state will give Pilgrim's Pride $500,000 in incentives.
