DuPont receives USDA approval for its Plenish soybeans

Soybeans expected to be fully commercialized in 2012

DuPont has announced USDA regulatory approval to proceed with field-testing of its Plenish soybeans developed with a trait for high oleic acid content.

“This is a significant milestone as we work to develop biotech traits that provide direct consumer benefits and solid results in the fields,” said Paul E.Schickler, president of Pioneer Hi-Bred, a DuPont business.

Plenish has been developed specifically for the industrial food industry and consumer markets in response to the need for products free of trans-fats which are produced during partial hydrogenation. Oil from Plenish seeds may have benefits in specific industrial applications including lubricants, foams and adhesives. Full commercialization of the trait is anticipated in 2012 following global regulatory approval.
