Longtime agribusiness leader gets Sagamore of the Wabash Award

John B. Swisher, founder of JBS United Inc., recently was awarded Indiana’s Sagamore of the Wabash Award, presented to him by Indiana Lt. Governor Becky Skillman during the company’s annual shareholder meeting held in Indianapolis Aug. 30.

JBS President Don Orr said, “In his 54 years of leadership at JBS United, John has significantly contributed to a vision for our company and the agribusiness industry. Additionally, John is a mentor to Hoosier producers and beyond in animal nutrition, pork production and the grain business."

“It is a great honor, and in particular to have it presented by the Lt. Governor. I truly appreciate this significant award,” said Swisher.

The Sagamore of the Wabash is an honorary award created by the state of Indiana and given to those who have rendered distinguished service to the state or to the governor. Past recipients of the award include astronauts, presidents, ambassadors, artists and musicians.
