A localized outbreak of H5 strain AI has been reported at a farm in Yasuki, Shimane Prefecture in Japan. Authorities initiated depopulation of the 21,000 hen unit immediately after confirmation of the diagnosis.
A surveillance zone has been established over a radius of 10km in accordance with OIE directives. It is presumed that surface water supplied to the farm was contaminated by free-living waterfowl.
