As part of the process of taking the helm of Feed Management, I reached out to a number of FM readers to find out first-hand what they look for when they pick up the magazine. In doing so, one word continued to come up in my conversations – solutions.

I shouldn’t have been surprised. When I pick up a trade publication I immediately look for articles or products that can assist me in doing my job better. And while I certainly enjoy the occasional think piece or review of an interesting seminar, the fact remains that I’m busy; if I don’t see anything that I perceive as having immediate value to what I’m doing, I set it aside. Why would FM readers be any different?

It’s all about solutions

With that in mind, expect to see a slightly different emphasis in FM in the months ahead. Beginning with our November/December issue we will begin profiling feed mill operations around the U.S. that are experiencing success, whether that is a result of equipment, workflow, process or some other factor. There is a lot of information out there that can help feed mill operators increase their efficiency and bottom line. I believe it is our responsibility to bring that information to you.

New products also came up in some of my discussions. That made sense. New products can often be solutions in and of themselves. At the very least, it’s good to know what is out there to help your operation run more smoothly. Look for an expanded products section in upcoming issues and spotlights on products of particular interest.

We will continue to draw upon the great nutrition resources we have to bring you solution-oriented pieces on nutrition and feed formulation. This has always been a key part of FM and will continue to be as we go forward.

Lastly, I point you to All of the content in our print editions appears first at, together with daily industry news updates, videos, white papers and a long list of other resources. If you haven’t spent time at the site, you should.

With the status of crop harvests in near-constant flux worldwide, feed producers need every advantage they can get, particularly now. It is my hope that FM and will be able to provide that advantage.
