EU approves piglet, pig-fattening feed additive

The EU Commission granted Danisco Animal Nutrition authorization for the use of its heat-stable xylanase, Danisco Xylanase, in wheat-based feed for piglets and pigs for fattening. Danisco Xylanase is inherently heat stable, maintaining efficacy after exposure to feed conditioning and pelleting temperatures of up to 90 C, according to Danisco.

In multiple trials, Danisco says Xylanase improved bodyweight gain and feed conversion ratio in both piglets and growing-finishing pigs.

"Managing feed costs continues to be one of the main focus areas for our customers. Danisco Xylanase has previously been authorized for broilers, layers, turkeys and ducks," said Niels Otto Damholt, Danisco’s European regional director. “This new registration means that pig producers can now confidently use this reliable, proven efficacious additive to reduce feed costs and improve production of their stock.”
