North Dakota is the latest state to have its first confirmed cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza in commercial poultry.

A flock of more than 5 million laying hens in Osceola County, Iowa, is among the most recent confirmed cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza in the United States.

The presence of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has been confirmed at seven additional commercial turkey operations, in the states of South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa.

A commercial turkey operation in Johnston County, North Carolina, has tested positive for highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), making it the state’s first confirmed HPAI case in commercial poultry. 

The two premises where highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) was recently confirmed in Ontario were turkey farms.

Federal officials reported 11 new cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in commercial turkey and layer chicken flocks located in six South Dakota counties over the past month.

Three additional cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) were confirmed in commercial turkey flocks in three South Dakota Counties, bringing the number of Counties in the state with reported cases up to five.

One of the most important things turkey producers can do to reduce the risk of clostridial dermatitis is to not compost dead birds within 200 feet of the barn where turkeys are kept.
