AFGRI, a leading South African agriculturalsolutions and industrial foods company, together with the Public InvestmentCorporation, announced the sale of AFGRI Poultry, as well as AFGRI’sKinross Animal Feeds Mill, to AFPO Consortium Proprietary Limited.
South Africa’s feed manufacturers and animal protein producers face higher ingredient costs. FAO’s latest food price trends bulletin reports that May 2015 prices for yellow maize in South Africa were 17 percent higher than a year earlier.
US poultry products are expected to enter South African market before end of 2015

U.S. and South African negotiators on June 5 reached anagreement to end South Africa’s tariffs on U.S. poultry. With the agreementreached, U.S. poultry products are expected to enter the South African marketbefore the end of 2015.
Zimbabwe-based integrated poultry company Irvine’s Africa has grown from 13 employees in 1957 to now having a presence in 22 countries across Africa, stretching from neighboring South Africa to Ethiopia.
The World Organisation for Animal Health offers rules to ensure that trade does not spread animal diseases and that trade continues where a disease poses no threat. Avian influenza is included in those rules.
