Latest avian flu epidemic is Europe’s largest ever

Since last autumn, almost 2,400 outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza have occurred in European poultry flocks, making this the largest epidemic of its type on record.

In a recent assessment of avian influenza in the 2021-2022 season, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) describes it as the worst ever such epidemic in Europe.
