MHP poultry production down in July

Production volumes decrease 8% when compared to previous month and 19% when compared to July 2021

The war in Ukraine continues to challenge MHP, which produced about 8% less poultry in July than it did in June, and about 19% less than it did in July 2021.

Avian flu virus circulates during Europe’s summer months

Although outbreak numbers are down, highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) virus continues to infect European poultry flocks in a sporadic pattern.

To date, one or more outbreaks have occurred in 20 European countries since the start of 2022. Last month, this season’s figure has just passed the total of 1,756 outbreaks registered with the EC by 24 European states throughout 2021.

MHP cuts poultry production capacity

A range of challenges arising from the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February have forced agri-food group MHP to cut poultry capacity by 10-15%.

Representing an 11% year-on-year reduction, the company attributes the cuts to the reduced population remaining in the country, and to their economic difficulties, as well as many logistical challenges.
